The Lake District
Romantic Scenery and Charming Vistas
“The earth was all before me. With a heart
Joyous, nor scared at its own liberty,
I look about; and should the chosen guide
Be nothing better than a wandering cloud,
I cannot miss my way.”— William Wordsworth, The Prelude
The beauty of England’s Lake District has inspired artists and poets since the beginning of time, and it has been a favorite destination of romantics for centuries. The sweeping, misty hills cradle mirror-like lakes in their valleys, and are seemingly endless. Single lane roads thread through the dramatic scenery, punctuated with waterfalls and stone bridges. The villages are charming and secluded, perfect for a cozy weekend getaway.
Lovely lakes,
rushing rivers,
winding roads,
standing stones,
misty hills,
charming villages,
cozy inns,
and wildlife.
Bottom Line
One of the most lovely places on earth. Perfect for a quiet, contemplative and romantic long weekend.
Know Before You Go
The Lake District is one of the most popular destinations in the UK. For the most enjoyable experience, we recommend going in the late fall for great colors and far fewer tourists. If you hike, be sure to buy a good map, and don’t tackle anything outside your skill level. The weather and hills can be treacherous for the unprepared.
