Monterosso al Mare
Sandy, sunny beach in Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre, situated on the rocky coast of the Italian Riviera, is one of the most picturesque places in Italy. Sunny hillsides dotted with pastel towns, lemon trees and vineyards are perfect for hiking.
The azure waters of the Ligurian sea are often within tantalizing sight.
We recommend that you start your hike in Manorolo, and ease into your journey with a trip down the Via dell’Amore. Then stop for lunch in Vernazza. After a leisurely repast, finish up the last leg of the Cinque Terre trail, then hit the beach and soak up the rays in Monterosso al Mare. Relax until the sun sets, then take the train back to your pension or hotel.
Know before you go
Bring some cash so you can buy water or limoncello on the hike. You’ll also need cash to rent lounges and umbrellas on the beach. Hiking the Cinque Terre trails requires a pass. You can buy this in any of the villages along the trail.
Bottom Line
One of the best beaches in the world.
