Packing for a Long Holiday Weekend

Carry on bagsThe following is a packing list for a four-day trip to Denver in November. The weather looks to be nice during the days and chilly after the sun sets (though weather in the Rockies is notoriously unpredictable). We will be doing a lot of walking outside as well as attending a fancy Thanksgiving dinner – so we’re not exactly packing light! Hopefully this list can help you too!

He packed:

  1. Toothpaste
  2. Neutrogenia Oil Free Acne Wash: been using this since high school-another example of my refusal to grow up.
  3. John Masters Shampoo: my old brand, Phytosylic, was discontinued. This is a replacement product for me,  but a damn good one at that. Keeps the hair clean without drying the scalp.
  4. Shaving Cream: I do like the travel size…
  5. Vaseline: the little travel tube works great for chapped hands and serves as an ointment for cuts.
  6. Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme: like the shampoo, I came across this after years of trial and error. Thanks, Alice!
  7. Hand Sanitizer: it should be pointed out that this is to be used in addition to, not instead of, washing your hands with soap and warm water.
  8. Toothbrush
  9. Floss
  10. Nail Clippers
  11. Bar Soap
  12. Deodorant
  13. Razor
  14. Diphenhydramine (Benedryl): you get a 3-for-1 here: this antihistamine works great for a runny nose, allergies/allergic reaction and causes enough drowsiness to put you to sleep (and impair your driving).
  15. Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil): great pain reliever and fever reducer
  16. Loperimide (Imodium): packing a few tablets can turn a disaster into a inconvenience.
  17. Simethicone (Gas-X): this little pill can be a life saver. With no drug interactions and few (none, really) side effects, this is safe for everybody – and your friends, family and those sitting next to you on the plane will thank you.
  18. Band-aids
  19. Jeans
  20. Button-Up shirt: bring one that is versatile.
  21. Belt: color should match your shoes
  22. Shoes: the Wallabee or Desert Trek is the perfect travelling shoe. They are casual or dressy, comfortable and perfect for walking city streets or hiking hills.
  23. Slacks: bring a non-jean trouser for special events or just for something different
