Glam Doll Donuts
Putting the va-va-voom into donuts
Donuts are usually a humble affair, perceived as low-brow breakfast fare for the working classes. You got your cream-filled, you got your fritter, you got your old-fashioned and you got your cake. Wilder variations include sprinkles or fruit, but that is usually the extent of creativity. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love classic donuts, and there’s no late-night treat more satisfying than a light and fluffy donut.
However, I wholeheartedly embrace the trend for creative confectionery that is sweeping the traditionally stodgy donut world. Yes, artisan donut shops are popping up all over the place, creating fried dough delights for the pour-over coffee crowd. Why should cupcakes have all the fun? And fun is just what Glam Doll Donuts are. Their donuts, much like the 50s pinup girls and actresses who serve as inspiration, are vivacious, charming and a touch exotic. With technicolor frosting and ingredient combinations straight out of a vintage cookbook (albeit with a sophisticated spin), all of their donuts are appealing. It’s difficult to choose just one — so we recommend getting a dozen.
If you must pick one (or hey, maybe two), the cake donuts are divine, particularly the Calendar Girl, a salted caramel & chocolate beauty; and you can’t go wrong with a light-as-air cruller like the Flirty Frenchy.
Plus, their staff is incredibly friendly, the decor is awesome, and the coffee is Intelligentsia. What more can you say – Glam Doll is fabulous.
