Located on the Spui, near ABC Bookstore and the Amsterdam Museum, this restaurant is our go-to choice for dinner in Central Amsterdam. Like your favorite sweater, it’s old, comfortable and always there for you.
The beer list is respectable, with a pan-European assortment of the good and the great. Their tostis (grilled cheese sandwiches) and cheese plate are filling, cheap and good. The service is quintessentially Dutch – friendly and unrushed. We love to linger over beers and bitterballen at the tables outside. As a matter of fact – sitting outside De Beiaard and watching Amsterdammers stroll, bike and drive impossibly tiny cars past us is one of our favorite things to do in Amsterdam.
Hint: try a dinner and a movie date night – go to Tuschinski. Just a short stroll a long the canal from the restaurant, this Art Deco cinema is not to be missed!
The inside is nice, but sitting out on the Spui is where it’s at, so try to go here when the weather is pleasant.
De Beiaard is a great place for a beer and a bite to eat.
