Wynkoop Brewing Company

Brew Pub in LoDo Denver

hot-tubThe Lower Downtown neighborhood is the original birthplace of the city of Denver and home to the magnificent Union Station (built 1914). It was once filled with bustling warehouses storing goods to fuel the expansion westward, but by the 1960s, it had fallen on hard times. However, the city recognized the historic significance of the area and in  1988, the Downtown Historic District was formed in to preserve the neighborhood. The opening of the Wynkoop Brewing Company in the old J.S. Brown Mercantile building (built 1899) was the spark the area needed to revitalize, and today, fashionable boutiques, restaurants and bars make this one-time skid row an upscale neighborhood. The train station is still there (soon to get a shot in the arm with a rail expansion to Denver International Airport) as is the Wynkoop.

restaurantThe Wynkoop Brewing Company offers a full range of beers and delicious food. We recommend the B3K Black Lager and the Mile HIPA, and if you like English-style beers, their St. Charles ESB will make you think you are Tyne-side. The gumbo is a surprise hit, and you will need plenty of beer to put out the fire on your tongue.  No worries-it is brewed mere feet from the dining area and if you are lucky, you will see dedicated brewers hard at work through the windows separating the restaurant from the brew house. The bar also has pool tables making it the perfect place to get together with friends.

Know Before You Go

With its proximity to Coors Field, it can be pretty busy on Rockies game days.
