Tower Hill State Park

See Part of Wisconsin’s Early History

Trail to the shot tower tunnel at Tower Hill State Park Tower Hill State Park is perched on bluffs above the Wisconsin River. It’s namesake shot tower is an example of early industry in Wisconsin, and as you hike around the park you can visit the replica tower, see the shaft where lead was dropped to create the shot, and hike into the creepy tunnel below.

The park itself is rather small, but it has spectacular views of the entire driftless region, and the trails are great for hiking. (If you’re looking for more of a challenge, head to Devil’s Lake or Blue Mounds.) You could combine a trip here with a visit to Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s summer home/workshop, or a dip in the river below (editor’s note: swimming in rivers is dangerous).

Know Before You Go:

Shot Tunnel at Tower Hill State Park Dress appropriately. The trails can be steep so good footwear is a must. You will probably work up quite a sweat, so make sure you dress in layers and bring plenty of water.

Wisconsin State Parks require an admission sticker that can be purchased at the park office. Open from 6am-11pm daily.

Bottom Line:

A great little park with a bit of history and lots of beautiful views.
