Fromagination is a slice of Paris plopped down straight in the heart of America’s Dairyland. The charming shop is packed to the rafters with cases of amazing cheese, and shelves and shelves of every food you would want to eat with cheese. They also have a well edited assortment of beer, wine and specialty sodas.
Don’t let the selection overwhelm you. If you need help deciding what to get, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and can help you pick the perfect cheese. (You can’t go wrong with Pleasant Ridge Reserve, though.)
Need a bite to eat? Grab a sandwich or order up a cheese place, snag a seat outside on the patio and people-watch on Madison’s capitol square.
Fromagination can be a budget buster, but you can get great deals on cheese by buying up their “orphans” – little chunks of cheese that are leftover from slicing wheels. (Ryan calls them “Wisconsin Candy Bars”). Hours are Monday – Friday, 9:30-6, Saturday 9-4, closed Sunday.
If you are in Madison and you love cheese – it’s definitely worth a stop.
