Central Waters Brewery

Small brewery proves it is easy being green

Ryan drinking a Ouisconsing Red AleCentral Waters Brewing Company is just off of US 10 in the small town of Amherst, WI. They are known for their quality beer and to commitment to sustainability (They’re Wisconsin’s first green powered brewery).

We arrived at 4pm on a Friday afternoon and the tap room was packed. We bellied up to the bar and had a pint (Kindra had the Glacial Trail IPA and Ryan had the Ouisconsing Red Ale) and then got on the free tour that began at 5pm. This was probably the least formal brewery tour we have been on, but easily the most informative. The brew house is small and our guide, Anello Mollica, the brewmaster, took us through each part of the brewing process and highlighted the initiatives they have undertaken to decrease their environmental impact. We got to pick the brain of a professional brewer and get up close with all of the equipment. For fans of The Big Lebowski (who isn’t?), you will be glad to know that their brew kettles are named “The Dude,” “Donnie,” “Walter,” and of course, “The Big Lebowski.”

Know before you go:

The free brewery tour is on only Fridays at 5pm.

Bottom Line:

One of the best brewery tours we’ve been – with fantastic beer to boot!
