Biking to the Tyranena Brewery

Biking and Beer in Lake Mills, Wisconsin

tyranena breweryOne of the best things about living in Wisconsin is that the state is crisscrossed with bike trails built on old rail lines. These trails are straight, flat and smooth, and take you through some of the most beautiful and peaceful landscapes on earth.  The Tyranena Brewing Company is just a couple of miles off of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail, and if you leave from the Cottage Grove trail head outside of Madison, it’s an easy 17 mile ride to the brewery.tyranena brewery

Leave Madison after lunch and take your time biking the flat trail through southern Wisconsin farmland. Arrive mid-afternoon and relax indoors or out with their wonderful beers. Order a flight of samplers if you are staying awhile, but for those who only have room for a pint, Scurvy is personal favorite. Remember that you biked here, so give yourself enough time to get home before it gets dark.

Know Before You Go

The tasting room is open on Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30-11pm, Friday and Saturday from 3pm to midnight and Sunday from noon to 8pm. They do not serve food, but they encourage carry-ins and many local eateries deliver to the brewery. Tours are offered on Saturdays at 3:30pm and are free.

State Trails require a pass that can be purchased at the trail head for $4.

Bottom Line

Biking and breweries. This ought to be an Olympic sport.
